A program to revive the forest industry in the Pontiac
A program to revive the forest industry in the Pontiac
With the intention of stimulating the forest industry in the region, the Pontiac Forest Products Producers’ Board, and the Groupement Forestier du Pontiac Inc. (GFP) are working together to inform woodlot owners that have 4 hectares or more, who wish to realize development work and thus become a forest producer. The director general of the Pontiac Forest Products Producers’ Board, Michel Léonard, explains the objectives of this collaborative project and the methods that will be undertaken to inform the population.
The future of the forest industry, which is an important issue for many people in the Pontiac, could be, according to GFP’s forestry engineer, Martin Boucher, a way to revive the economic activity in the region, particularly through budget increase, granted by the Government of Québec to the Pontiac under the Private Forest Management Support Program.
