At the municipal council meeting on Grand Calumet Island on Monday night, Municipal councilor were asked to make a decision to become a tenant of a lease of a portion of the land of the Iles Lafontaine. This lease, which is currently the responsibility of the Laurentian Métis Alliance, at a cost of approximately $ 100 annually, would be assumed by the Municipality of Ile-du-Grand-Calumet. The goal according to Mayor Serge Newberry would eventually be to create a Quebec national park. Some stakeholders advised the Mayor to ensure that he had the cooperation of the MRC Pontiac and to work with local stakeholders to ensure that this project is implemented. Development of Iles Lafontaine was part of the electoral platform of the current mayor of Grand-Calumet Island, Serge Newberry.
