Raymond Durocher, who was mayor of Fort-Coulonge from 1999 to 2017 (also councilor from 1991 to 1999), as well as warden of the MRC Pontiac from 2013 to 2017 died on May 15th, at the age of 62.
In a 26-year career, Raymond Durocher has often been the main representative of the Pontiac to the media.
A mayor who kept up
MNA for Pontiac, André Fortin, praised Raymond Durocher. For him, the mayor of Fort-Coulonge was always concerned for the development of his village and the Pontiac region. “Raymond kept up with his “business“. He knew everything that was happening in the ministers, sometimes even before me,” said André Fortin. In an interview with CHIP 101.9, André Fortin noted the qualities of Raymond Durocher as a politician and of his fighting spirit in defending the region.
The MRC Pontiac Warden, Jane Toller, recognized Raymond Durocher’s contribution to the Pontiac. In addition to combining the functions of Warden, Raymond Durocher was also acting Warden on numerous occasions and he was often the one who represented the MRC on the provincial scene given his knowledge of French and his many connections across Quebec.
A mayor but also a paramedic and a committed citizen
The flag of the municipality of Fort-Coulonge is currently at half-mast. The mayor of Fort-Coulonge, Gaston Allard, remembered Raymond Durocher as a mayor above all, but also as a trainer in minor hockey and a committed citizen.
In the obituary published last week, we recall that he was the beloved husband of Anne Charbonneau, dear father of Lyne (Kevin Nixon) and Roland (Sophie Lafleur-Thériault) also grandfather of Liam , Koraly, Kaïla and baby Mélina on the way. Due to current circumstances, the funeral will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can result in a donation to the CLSC Pontiac Foundation.
