A new interruption of service at the Pontiac Hospital
Shawville – A new interruption of service was announced, this time in general surgery, last night at the Pontiac Hospital at around 7:45 p.m. The interruption will also have an impact on the obstetrics wing in the coming days.
The service was suspended Thursday at 8 a.m. and will continue until next Monday, January 13th at 8 a.m. The Centre intégré de santé et service sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais explained that this new interruption is due to an unexpected absence of a surgeon.
According to information provided by the CISSS de l’Outaouais, traumatology patients will be referred to the nearest trauma center, depending on the situation until the service is reinstated. Surgeons from the Gatineau and the Hull hospitals will work together to monitor the clinical condition of the patients.
As has already been the case, pregnant women in labor will be redirected, after being assessed at the Pontiac Hospital, to the Gatineau Hospital. The CISSS de l’Outaouais has assured that in the event that a pregnant woman arrives for impending delivery, qualified personnel will be able to provide care. The CISSS has also ensured that future mothers affected by this break in service were notified.
Note that the most recent interruption in the obstetrics wing started on December 13th, 2019 and was extended until January 6th, 2020 totaling 24 days.
