A national operation on distracted driving
A national operation on distracted driving
All the police services of Quebec, in collaboration with the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) and Contrôle Route Québec (CRQ) will unite to make drivers aware of the dangers associated with distracted driving in the framework of the concerted national operation (ONC) Distraction 2020.
In a press release sent by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), numerous police operations will be held from September 18 to 24, 2020 throughout Quebec in order to intervene with drivers distracted by the use of a cell phone, portable electronic device or display screen.
Remember that distracted driving reduces the driver’s attention and concentration and increases the risk of being involved in a collision. This problematic behavior also increases the risk of committing other violations of the Highway Safety Code, because the eyes leave the road for a moment.
Don’t let the distraction blind you
Distracted driving is one of the main causes of fatal or serious injury crashes in Quebec. Texting while driving at a speed of 90 km / h has been proven to be like crossing a football field with your eyes closed. Also, a distracted driver may not see up to 50% of the information in their surroundings. He looks without seeing what is happening. So, distracted driving is like driving blindfolded, or semi-blindfolded.
