A first album for Lucie and Wilson Lazarus, 9 and 11 from Chapeau

A first album for Lucie and Wilson Lazarus, 9 and 11 from Chapeau

17 June 2022 à 12:00 am

Two violinists aged 9 and 11, Lucie and Wilson Lazarus, from the Chapeau sector of Isle-aux-Allumettes and attending the Dr Wilbert Keon school, produced their first album. While in the CHIP 101.9 studios, Lucie and Wilson, who form the band The Fiddlaires, discussed their journey and the contribution of their mentor, well-known local musician Louis Schryer.

“Wilson: When I was like five or six, I started playing violin and then about a year after that, I started taking fiddle lessons with Louis Schryer and step dance lessons with Rhodina Turner.
Lucie: I am 9 and I started when I was four years old and same as Wilson, I started a year after playing fiddle and step dancing. I’m from Chapeau Quebec and I go to school in Chapeau at DWKS, Dr. Wilbert Keon School. I like to play music because I like the fact that you get to play for everybody.”

Their mother Christine explained how the idea of making an album came about.

“I think it sort of started, it kind of just organically has come from the kids YouTube page, you know, that they have, The Fiddlaires. And the feedback we received from that is just been all positive. And I think just through them learning all these tunes and, you know, kind of getting out there through COVID, again, it was just one of those projects to kind of like, for them to work hard towards. They practised and the chance to work with Bryan Hebert as the producer.”

The album will be on sale at the radio located on Principale Street in Fort-Coulonge. It will also be possible to order it via their website.
