A challenging and stressful start to the 2020-21 school year
As Teachers and students return to school, the routine begins to set in. However, for the director General of the Western Quebec School Board (WQSB) Mike Dubeau, the first two weeks of school has seen its fair share of challenges and stress.
In the by-weekly Segment with Mike Dubeau, he explained that after returning to school many adjustment have had to be made but the students, staff and principals are beginning to adjust to the new measures put in place.
First Outbreak in a WQSB school
Within two weeks of the restart, the WQSB has already faced an outbreak of COVID-19 in one of their schools. According to Dubeau, a teacher who was affected came in to school once before presenting symptoms, did not teach a class, nor did their come into contact with a student. The risk of transmission was therefore categorized as minimal-risk by Public health authorities.
The outbreak, though limited, tested the School board to apply the measures implemented by the schools by Public Health.
It’s important to note that the school population – School staff, students and parents – was informed about the situation. Mike Dubeau stated in the interview that in these cases, two letters are issued. One to the entire school population and another to the individuals at risk of infection.
