950 speeding tickets given in one week in the Outaouais-Laurentides region
From June 7th to 13th, 1319 fines, including 950 for speeding were issued by the police department of the Outaouais-Laurentides region, as part of a national operation focusing on reckless driving. According to a press release issued by the Sûreté du Québec on Wednesday, these findings were issued despite “police presence, harsher penalties, photo radars and awareness campaigns.”
In addition to these interventions, police organizations have broadcasted prevention messages on social media under the theme: « Aucune excuse ne tient la route. Ralentissez! » or “No excuse hold merite. Slow down! “. The Sûreté du Québec also pointed out that not signalling or speeding are choices made by the driver and that the driver is responsible for his/her own choices. The press release goes on to say that the “key to success” lies in the collaborative effort between police and the road users.
