Since the closing of nomination application process last Friday for the November 5th municipal elections, a panoramic picture of the upcoming municipal elections in the 18 municipalities of the Pontiac MRC can now be seen. In total, 53 elected representatives were elected by acclamation through the Pontiac MRC, a little more than 40% of the elected representatives. Which is better than in 2013 were the percentage of those elected by acclamation was about 55%.

The difference can be explained by the issues in some municipalities. For example in Mansfield, residents will have a vote for every seat on council. This is due in large part because of candidates who opposing a study on mergers and others supporting a study.

On Grand-Calumet Island, there are various issues affecting the council such as unpaid taxes for several years that have attracted attention. This municipality saw 4 different mayors in 4 years. There will be at least 6 seats out of 7 up for election, compared to only 2 in 2013.

The same kind of phenomenon can be seen on Allumettes Island were all the seats are being contested compared to only one in 2013.

On the other hand, the entire council of the municipality of Waltham was elected by acclamation.
