37 residents now positive, 4 cases reported at the CAP in Shawville

The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais gave an update on the ongoing outbreak at the CHSLD Manoir Sacré-Cœur, the public long-term care facility in Mansfield. Currently 37 out of the home’s 40 residents have tested positive, nearly double the initial figure of 21 on January 14. It has also been revealed that there are currently four residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Pontiac Reception Centre (CAP) in Shawville.

At a press conference on January 21, the director of support for seniors’ autonomy, Benoit Major, took stock of the number of people with COVID-19 in the region’s long-term care facilities (CHSLDs).

“So the fifth wave of COVID, unfortunately, did not spare our seniors in our different living environments. Our teams are hard at work providing care and implementing and applying the measures. I will give you a brief overview of what is currently happening in our CHSLDs. At the Pontiac reception center in Shawville, we have 4 residents. At the [Manoir Sacré-Coeur], a center that has been hard hit, we have 37 residents who are active as we speak. That said, we have recoveries that are announced today … that is a good sign,” he said (translated).

Although more than 90% of the Manoir Sacré-Coeur’s residents were positive, the CISSSO indicated that there were positive signs despite everything. Media relations agent Patricia Rhéume pointed out that there had been no hospitalizations and staff from other sectors had been brought in to help out, as more than 20 employees had tested positive and had to isolate.
