1071 offense notices in the Outaouais region during the concerted national operation
The Sûreté du Québec, all of the Quebec police services and the Quebec road control unveiled the results of the interventions carried out as part of the concerted national operation (ONC) reckless behavior which was held from April 9 to 15. .
In the Outaouais, the results report 1071 offenses and 4 arrests for impaired driving.
Over 11,000 operations targeting reckless behavior took place across the province, in addition to an awareness campaign on the various social media platforms of police organizations. During this period, more than 25,000 tickets were issued by all participating police services and by Quebec road control for various violations of the Highway Safety Code.
Motorcyclists particularly vulnerable
In the past year on the territory of the MRC Pontiac, two motorcyclists lost their lives in the space of a few days. The Sûreté du Québec hopes for greater caution from them, but also from other drivers.
“Several fatal collisions involving motorcyclists have occurred since the start of the season and particularly during the last week. Remember that on a motorcycle as well as in a car, everyone must take into account other road users and be vigilant in their presence, in order to share the road in a safe and harmonious manner. Motorists are invited to exercise increased caution in the presence of motorcyclists, in particular by paying more attention to them to see them better and motorcyclists are invited to make themselves visible and to adopt a behavior that promotes their safety, ”insisted the communications service of the Sûreté du Québec.
Reckless behavior includes several actions taken by road users who, in addition to being irritating, contravene the Highway Safety Code and can endanger their safety and that of others. This campaign, rolled out under the theme “Being careful when traveling is a winner! Was intended to remind road users of the importance of obeying applicable laws and adopting safe behavior at all times.
The main reckless behaviors targeted during this ONC were:
• Following too closely
• Passing without making sure there is no danger
• Not signaling your intentions
• Do not make compulsory stops at traffic lights and stop signs
