La Maison Papillon to provide palliative care for Outaouais children and their families
Since 2019, a group of people has come together to offer the Outaouais region its first palliative care home for children and their families, in a place that will be called Maison Papillon. A project is expected to come to fruition in 2025 in Cantley to offer this type of service in French, in Quebec. Project manager Josianne T. Lavoie was a guest on the Clin d’oeil sur l’Outaouais show, where she explained the concept of the care offered and the difference between palliative care for adults and children.
Families in the Outaouais who needed this type of service had to go to Ontario in the past. Set on a four-acre plot along the Gatineau River in Cantley, the house will include a total of eight beds, distributed in six children’s rooms and two family suites, play and motor skills rooms, a multisensory room, rejuvenation rooms, an outdoor playground, a memorial area, a lit walking path, and more. Children and families will be at the heart of the house, and all care and services will revolve around their needs to support them individually and collectively in their unique life journey.
