Uncertainty around possible by-election in Calumet

The Municipality of Ile-du-Grand-Calumet is seeking clarification from the provincial government about whether they will have to have another by-election for council, following the passing of Aurel Paquette on October 19. The comes on the heels of another by-election that was required earlier this year following the passing of former councillor Pierre Jolicoeur.

Director General Tracy Hérault said that council was still waiting to hear from the ministry about whether a by-election is required, since there is currently less than a year to go before the municipal elections scheduled for November 2, 2025.
