A teenager originally from Fort-Coulonge was drafted to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this past weekend, selected 12th overall in the first round by the Gatineau Olympiques.

Maxim Dubé’s hockey career has taken him all over, from the Fort-Coulonge arena to southern Ontario to New York most recently, playing for the Long Island Gulls 15U AAA squad where he put up an impressive 90 points (34 goals, 56 assists) in 68 games over the 2023/24 season.

The 16-year-old center said that he was expecting to go in the first round, but didn’t expect to end up so close to home, playing for a team he’d watched growing up.

Dubé said that while he’s happy to be drafted, he’ll be working hard over the summer to be ready for the Olympiques’ camp in August. He said that after a season in the states, he was looking forward to being able to play in front of friends and family.

Like any player of his caliber, Dubé has his sights set on getting drafted to the NHL and representing team Canada one day. He thanked everyone following his progress locally for their support.
