Water Levels stable for now in L’Isle-aux-Allumettes; municipality asks residents to remain vigilant

Despite current water levels along the Ottawa River reaching higher levels than those seen in 2017, the municipality of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes has seen some stability in the last few hours.

“Depending on the location, levels only increased slightly over night,” the municipality wrote in a press release. “As we welcome this news, we are advising residents along the Ottawa river to remain vigilant as we await an updated forecast from the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board.”

The Mayor of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Corey Spence, says the waters levels have risen very quickly in the last few days, which is why the municipality wants to make sure that residents are well informed and are prepared to handle water levels that reach or even exceed those of 2019.

The municipality of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes is trying to help residents of L’Isle-aux-Allumettes, Chichester and Sheenboro prepare for water levels to rise, by offering sand and sandbags at their designated sandbag filling station, which is located at the Demers Centre Municipal garage, 450 ch du Rang 5, open until 8 p.m. each day.

They still need volunteers to come help fill sandbags.
