Environment Canada issues weather alert starting Thursday

20 December 2022 à 9:52 am

Environment Canada has issued a special weather alert for the Pontiac region from Thursday evening (December 22) until Saturday (December 24).

“Significant snowfall amounts, strong winds and blowing snow are expected over areas north of the St Lawrence River, while over the areas to the south, some of the precipitation will fall as rain,” the statement reads. “Freezing rain is likely in the snow-to-rain transition area. As there is some uncertainty as to the system’s track, it is still too early to provide details regarding expected precipitation amounts. Please monitor your local forecast and the latest alerts for your area.”

The statement also notes that snow squalls will be possible in the southern parts of the province on Saturday afternoon in the wake of the system, and temperatures could drop below seasonal values early next week.

“Remember to plan your travel ahead of time this holiday season,” it adds. “Road conditions will be difficult and power outages are possible.”
