Campbell’s Bay seeking to delay by-election for mayor
The Municipality of Campbell’s Bay is on track for a by-election for the mayor’s seat, following the death of Maurice Beauregard in October, however, council is seeking to avoid holding the contest in the dead of winter. According to Pro-Mayor Tim Ferrigan, they recently requested an extension from Ministry of Municipal Affairs in order to push the date of the by-election to around April. Quebec law stipulates that a by-election be held within four months of the post being vacated, but does allow for extensions upon request.
Ferrigan noted that they thought turnout might be better in the spring, and it would also avoid putting undue pressure on their staff, as February is tax season.
