Friday, November 04, 2022 — During Tuesday’s media briefing at the MRC Pontiac, CHIP 101.9 had a chance to ask Warden Jane Toller about the recent visit to the Covanta site, which many of our local elected officials participated in.

This visit was directly linked to the idea of creating an industrial incinerator in the Pontiac, that would convert household waste into electricity. According to Toller, the next step in this ‘Energy from Waste’ project seems to be to garner the support of Ottawa’s new city council.

With Ottawa’s municipal elections only coming to a close recently, many of the new city councilors and Mayor Mark Sutcliff have yet to take office. Jane Toller says we should soon expect to see public consultations being held on the energy from waste project and possibly a resolution voted in at the MRC.

Jane Toller says that the project is fortunate to count on many supporters and an important financial partner (who’s identity remains confidential at this time). Toller added that the potential site that would host this project would be the Portage industrial site in the municipality of Litchfield.
