Xavier Lusignan wins gold at the Junior Pan-American Weighlifting Championships
Xavier Lusignan, a young weightlifter from Mansfield-et-Pontefract, reached the highest peak in his career thus far winning multiple gold medals on Saturday at the Junior Pan-American Weighlifting Championships in Lima Peru. Competing in the 96 kg category, the 19-year-old greatly improved on the benchmarks he set at the competition last year.
In a post on Facebook following his win, he had high praise for the community of Pontiac.
Xavier won two gold medals and one silver, winning in the overall amount lifted and in the clean and jerk, while taking second in the snatch. He lifted 148 kg and 187 kg, compared to 141 kg and 170 kg at last year’s games, which is phenomenal progression in the sport.
Naomie has good showing in first Pan-Ams
Naomie Lusignan, 17, also showed progression like her older brother at what was her first Junior Pan-Am Games, improving her lifts by several kilos. She still has another three years to compete at the junior level.
