Kidney walk coming to the Shawville Fairgrounds this Sunday

28 September 2022 à 12:00 am

This Sunday (October 2), the Shawville Fairgrounds will be the host of the latest iteration of the Pontiac Kidney Walk. The walk, which raises funds for the Kidney Foundation of Canada, was organized locally by Clarendon resident Randy Russell. Registration opens at 11:30 a.m. and the 5 km walk begins at 1 p.m.

Russell explained that he had participated in other walks in the city, but thought that the Pontiac should have its own. He set out in 2019 with an ambitious goal of $10,000 and managed to blow past that goal thanks to the generosity of local attendees.

The reason why this cause is close to Russell’s heart is because kidney disease runs in his family, and he himself has been the recipient of a kidney donation from his wife Francine. He said that the research about his ailment, known as Polycystic Kidney Disease, has advanced significantly over the years.

More information is available on the Kidney Walk’s website.
