The MRC Pontiac has announced that the flags at their office in Campbell’s Bay are at half mast to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Yesterday, the Queen died at her Scottish residence, Balmoral Castle, aged 96. Elizabeth became Queen in 1952, at the age of 25, and presided over the country and the Commonwealth, including Canada, for seven decades, the MRC press release notes.

To highlight the significance of the Queen’s passing, the MRC flags were all flown at half-mast and the 18 municipalities also followed. The flags will remain at half mast until sunset on the day of the funeral.

“On behalf of the Council of Mayors and all the staff of the MRC Pontiac, I would like to express our most sincere condolences to the members of the royal family,” wrote MRC Warden Jane Toller. “We also wish to express our admiration and respect for his life of dedicated service to the people of England and to the Commonwealth as a whole. She has been a true model of perseverance and dedication over the past seven decades. She has maintained a warm relationship with Canada and has visited our country 22 times. I had the opportunity to see her in 1973 at Ontario Place in Toronto.”
