Rainfall warning for Pontiac

Environment Canada has issued a weather alert for the Pontiac region today (April 7) and tomorrow, due to heavy rainfall amounting to between 25 and 50 mm.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible,” the statement reads. “Rainfall warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.”

The Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board indicated in its forecast earlier this week that the levels at most locations along the river are around average values for this time of year.

“With above normal temperatures and significant rainfall forecast over the next few days over a large portion of the basin, levels and flows are expected to start increasing on the main stem of the Ottawa River between Mattawa and the Montreal region starting Thursday,” the forecast reads. “Northern reservoirs are close to being emptied and will retain water once spring runoff begins in headwater areas of the basin.”

The ORRPB is scheduled to release its next forecast this afternoon.
