Portage du Fort Mayor Lynne Cameron running for fourth term
Portage du Fort Mayor Lynne Cameron hasn’t grown tired of local politics and is seeking another term after more than 20 years on council, with the past 12 in the top job. She will face off again against Nicole Thompson, whom she defeated in 2017 by a margin of six votes. That year the village had 182 valid ballots cast out of 234 registered electors.
Cameron has lived in the village for almost 48 years and said that what she loved the most about her municipality was its beauty.
Portage has long had issues with its aging water infrastructure and Cameron said that one of the things she was most proud of were all the improvements that council has overseen in recent years.
She said that if re-elected, one file she would pay close attention to would be improvements to high-speed internet in the region, funded by a recent joint commitment by the federal and provincial governments. She said that it was essential to attract new residents and added that she had some connectivity issues when trying to attend virtual MRC meetings as well as local council.
