Maurice Beauregard elected for second term

5 October 2021 à 12:00 am

Campbell’s Bay Mayor Maurice Beauregard, along with the rest of his council, were elected by acclamation. The only change on council from the previous term was that Lois Smith, who served the municipality for 33 years, stepped down and was replaced in seat 5 by Josey Bouchard.

The newly elected mayor said that he was proud of what his council accomplished in the previous four years, from the splash pad project, to dealing with the 2019 flooding and aging municipal infrastructure.

Beauregard said that though none of the seats on council were contested, he believes there is public interest in municipal politics and that residents trust the current council to keep things on the right track. He also tipped his hat to Smith for her decades of service.

Beauregard declined to comment immediately on what his council’s priorities would be going forward, stating that he would like to meet as a group with their newest member, Bouchard, and get her feedback before committing to anything.

“I don’t want to answer that until all of our council have had time to talk together,” he said. “We know we have a few projects online but I think it would be fair to have my new councillor involved to make decisions before I go out there and put it in the public what we’re going to do.”

The full interview with Beauregard is available here.
