The 40th anniversary of the Pontiac Terry Fox Run was a great success according to organizer John Petty. The event took place at Pontiac High School on September 19, and the start of the run was staggered, to keep people from crowding up in accordance with public health guidelines.

Petty estimated that they had between 80 and 100 people were present throughout the day, bringing in more than $6,000, though he said that more donations were expected to come in from local clubs and the student run that took place on September 16.

Petty also spoke about the success of the Try like Terry challenge, where participants tracked their “human-powered movement” over the course of the 40 days leading up to the run, with the goal of collectively accumulating enough kilometres to cross Canada. Thirty-seven people participated throughout August and September, logging 6,546 km, which, when combined with the 2,363 km logged during the student run on September 16, totalled 8,909 km, far surpassing their goal.

“We crushed it,” Petty said.
