Club Quad du Pontiac and Green PPJ Verte react to the MTQ’s decision

The ministère des Transports du Québec (MTQ) recently declined the municipality of Waltham’s request to reduce the speed limit on highway 148 (90km/h to 80 km/h) for a second time. Following this decision, the CHIP 101.9 news room contacted the Club Quad Pontiac and the Green PPJ Verte for their reactions.

Though not involved in the request, as stated by the Club Quad president René Barrette, the Club would have directly benefited from the approval of this request as they currently have no route between Davidson and Waltham.

Barrette also explained that the Club Quad Pontiac is now looking in to alternate routes, such as the chemin de la rivière noire, adding that the PPJ ”would be ideal.”

As for Remo Pasteris of the Groupe Green PPJ Verte, he said that they are open to working in collaboration with the Club Quad Pontiac as a way to create a plan for passage between municipalities. Though maintaining that if the plan involves the PPJ, there would need been to be strict separation between the two groups.

According to the Director general of Waltham, Fernand Roy, the municipal Council is now waiting for the MRC Pontiac to make a decide on the use of the PPJ. Two options are currently on the table, according to Roy: the creation of a multi-use track, or the addition of a track reserved for ATVs in parallel to the PPJ. Note that Waltham has recently made another speed reduction request within the residential area of the municipality, this time, as a safety concern.
