The mayor of l’Île-du-Grand-Calumet hope to avoid further internal disputes on the council

During the municipal council meeting Monday, February 10, the mayor of l’Île-du-Grand-Calumet, Serge Newberry told the attending public that the municipal council had a meeting to resolve the internal conflicts which broke out in recent months, events in which had raised a lot of public criticisms.

Mayor Serge Newberry provided some explanation during the meeting:

During the meeting, Councillor Mona Donnelly highlighted the presence of CHIP 101.9 and said that she hopes that the attending Journalist will report other information, rather than ” just the heated discussions”, such as those in recent meetings.

The ”belles échanges” (the nice exchanges), mentioned by Councillor Donnelly, refers to the students of Sieur-de-Coulonge High School who asked the council to the creation of a junior firefighter program, within the municipality, at the end of the meeting.

It may be important to remember that CHIP 101.9 had witnessed heated conversations, in most recent meeting, between Mayor Serge Newberry and Councillor James Azola, who said he was filing a complaint against Mayor Newberry at the Commission municipale du Québec (CMQ). When contacted by CHIP 101.9, James Azola confirmed that he was indeed filling the complaint against Newberry.

The council of mayors of the MRC Pontiac adopted a resolution in October to inform the CMQ of what they have called a ”perceived conflict of interest” against Serge Newberry, who failed to publicly declare his properties in the Îles Lafontaine even though he was on the committee to create a national park in that location.
