The MRC calls for a moratorium on the allocation of Pontiac lumber

Following the various developments in the forest industry in the Outaouais over recent weeks, including the shutdown of the Fortress factory in Thurso, the MRC Pontiac has adopted a resolution to ask the Quebec Minister of Forests, Wildlife and Parks to proceed with establishing a moratorium on lumber supplies, as a way to give business people in the MRC Pontiac the opportunity to revive the industry. In an interview with CHIP 101.9, the director of territory at the MRC Pontiac, Réjean Dugas, explained the MRC’s objective with this resolution.

On October 7th, the management of the Thurso plant (Fortress) announced the end of its activities for an indefinite period, which meant that the majority of the 323 workers at the plant were laid off. Last week, the member of National Assembly for the Pontiac André Fortin mentioned that the Davidson cogeneration plant revitalization project could be considered part of the solution to the current crisis affecting the Outaouais.
