Another interruption in obstetrics scheduled for this week

Shawville – The Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) de l’Outaouais announced another interruption of service in the obstetrics wing of Shawville Hospital started this Wednesday, October 23rd at 8:00 AM and will continue until October 25th at 8:00 AM.
Over the last few weeks the CISSS de l’Outaouais has repeatedly indicated interruptions in obstetrics at the Shawville Hospital.

According to the press release, the break is temporary and is caused by a lack of nurses in obstetrics.

Patients in labor will be redirected, after being evaluated at the Pontiac Hospital, to the Gatineau Hospital. In the event that a pregnant woman presents herself for imminent delivery, there will be qualified personnel to provide care and the mother will then be transferred to the Gatineau hospital.

Expectant mothers who could be affected by this break in service have been notified. The CISSS de l’Outaouais wishes to point out that this situation is temporary and the return to normal is scheduled for Friday, October 25th, 2019 at 8 AM.

On October 17th, in response to the many obstetric services disruptions at the Pontiac Hospital, the MRC Pontiac resolved to send a request to the Ministry of Health to improve its employability offers for the nursing services at the Pontiac Hospital and in the region.
