Pembroke resident receives Governor General’s Medal for Volunteers

A Pembroke resident, Art Jamieson, was awarded the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers at the last Renfrew County Council meeting on November 28th. Councilor Jennifer Murphy presented it on behalf of the Governor General of Canada, Julie Payette.

This Medal is awarded to Canadians who have made a significant, sustained and unpaid contribution to their community, in Canada or abroad.

According to the release issued by Renfrew County, “Mr. Jamieson’s list of accomplishments and volunteer contributions is long and includes a lifetime contribution of more than 60 years of service to the community as a promoter of traditional culture, music, dances and folklore. Mr. Jamieson also served for 22 years as a municipal elected official and as a master of ceremonies for countless telethons and fundraisers in Renfrew County. ”
