SOPFEU: August Review

SOPFEU: August Review

5 September 2018 à 12:00 am

August was a “calm” month, according to the Society for the Protection Against Forests Fires (SOPFEU), who reported having a respite period in August after a “very intense” month of July. Last month was marked by low activity in forest fires in Quebec. In all, 37 fires burned 25 hectares of forest. In comparison, the average in August is 53 fires burning 44 hectares.

This lack of activity allowed SOPFEU to support its counterparts in other provinces, especially in Ontario and British Columbia.

SOPFEU would like to remind the public that the forest fire season is not yet over, even though summer is coming to an end. With the start of the hunting season, SOPFEU expects to see new fires. To reduce the risk they ask the public to avoid smoking in the forest, to properly clean ATVs before using them and to completely extinguish any campfire before leaving the premises.
