Safety of Canada’s Fishing Enthusiasts
As part of National Fishing Week, which runs from June 30 to July 8, the Canadian Safe Boating Council (CNSC) would like to remind fishing enthusiasts the important to wear a lifejacket as opposed to ones “lucky hat”.
According to the Canadian Safe Boating Council and the Lifesaving Society, 80% of boaters who drowned in Canada each year were not wearing a lifejacket or a personal flotation device (PFD).
Most of these accidents occur on small boats, with 60% of deaths that could have been avoided. The majority of these victims were men aged 19 to 35 who were on the water during a fishing trip.
