Former editor of THE EQUITY, dies at age 96

The former publisher of THE EQUITY, Rosaleen Dickson, died in Ottawa on January 23rd, at the age of 96.

Mrs. Dickson purchased THE EQUITY in 1953 with her husband, David Dickson. They also founded Pontiac Printshop Ltd., a printing and publishing company. Rosaleen had been the editor of the newspaper for over 30 years.

Rosaleen was the first woman to serve on Shawville’s municipal council. She has invested in projects such as the modernization of the city’s water system, the construction of retirement homes and the development of Mill Dam Park.

In the early 1970s, she contributed to the CHIP 101.9 foundation helping to establish the station. Rosaleen graduated with a degree in journalism from Carleton University in 2003. At age 96, Rosaleen died peacefully at her home in Ottawa.

Her ashes will be buried with other members of the Dickson family in Shawville.
