Internet Purchase Scam: prevention tips

The police officers of the Sûreté du Québec wish to make the public aware of the need to be careful when purchasing through a resale site on the Internet. Sergeant Marc Tessier.

Here are some prevention tips:
• Be skeptical about too attractive offers; if it’s too good to be true it probably is.
• Validate all information;
• Take as much information as possible about the seller: do not hesitate to ask a lot of questions;
• make sure the meeting place is public setting to complete the transaction;
• Be accompanied by another person for your meeting;
• Do not show up if the seller changes the meeting place last minute for a more isolated location.

The Sûreté du Québec also reminds the public that any information on criminal activities may be disclosed at any time, in a confidential manner, to the Criminal Intelligence Unit at 1 800 659-4264.
