Canadian Dental Care Plan: millions of Canadians benefit
The Canadian Dental Care Plan, launched in 2023, has provided millions of Canadians with access to lower-cost dental care. And many even want to see the program expanded.
According to a report by the Office of the Auditor General of Canada, in March 2026, nearly seven million Canadians were enrolled in the plan, including 1.9 million Quebeckers. Of these, 61% had already received free or low-cost care.
The program provides coverage of up to 100% of the rates set for eligible care, for households with an adjusted net family income below $70,000.
Another interesting statistic is that in 2025, beneficiaries paid an average of $264 for dental care compared to $536 for households without dental insurance.
Be careful, however: some costs may remain the responsibility of patients, particularly when dentists charge more than the plan rates or when treatments are not covered.
