Sophie Chatel appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence

Sophie Chatel, Member of Parliament for Pontiac–Kitigan Zibi, is stepping down from her position as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food to take on a new role with the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defense.

In her new role, Ms. Chatel will be responsible for issues concerning veterans, members of the Canadian Armed Forces, and their families. She also intends to continue her work as a Member of Parliament serving the constituents of Pontiac–Kitigan Zibi.

The Member of Parliament made a point of thanking the agricultural producers, agri-food businesses, associations, and various partners in the agricultural sector with whom she has collaborated during her term. She emphasized the importance of agriculture to the riding’s economy and identity and assured that she will continue to defend the interests of the agricultural community.

Ms. Chatel also welcomed her successor, Daniel Gobeil, Member of the National Assembly for Chicoutimi–Le Fjord and former president of the Quebec Dairy Farmers Association. She believes that his experience in the agricultural sector will be an asset in his new role.

Sophie Chatel says she intends to devote the same energy to serving those who have served Canada, while continuing to represent the citizens and rural communities of Pontiac–Kitigan Zibi.
