Father Douglas Bridge passed away at the age of 85

It is with sadness that the Pontiac community learned of the passing of Monsignor Douglas Bridge, a priest of the Diocese of Pembroke, who died peacefully on September 14th, 2026, at the age of 85. He had been a priest for 62 years.

Well-known and beloved in Pontiac, Monsignor Bridge dedicated much of his life to serving the communities he ministered to. He is survived by his brother John, his sister Anne, his nieces and nephews, as well as many members of the clergy and parishioners of the parishes where he served.

In 1986, he was named an honorary prelate by Pope John Paul II, a distinction that recognized his commitment to the Church.

A memorial service will be held at St. John the Baptist Church in Pembroke on Friday, September 18th, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation until 4:00 p.m. He will then be received at St. Peter’s Parish in Fort-Coulonge at 6:30 p.m., where those wishing to pay their respects may do so until 9:00 p.m.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Church in Fort-Coulonge on Saturday, September 19th, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Mansfield.

The family invites those who wish to make a donation to the parish of their choice in lieu of flowers.
