Archaeological excavations open to the public in Quyon this autumn

History and heritage enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get their hands dirty this fall as the Archéo-Pontiac archaeological project will take place from September 26th to October 16th, 2026, at the Quyon Village Municipal Park.

Organized by Les Amis du Sault-des-Chats, this initiative aims to uncover the buried secrets of the former Quyon agricultural fair site. Located at the confluence of the Ottawa and Quyon Rivers, the site could hold significant traces of Pontiac’s history.

Two weekends will be open to the public: September 26th and 27th, and October 3rd and 4th. Participants will be able to take part in the excavations and discover various archaeological methods.

Artifact cleaning workshops, guided tours, and historical interpretations will also be offered. New stations will offer introductory workshops on surveying, stratigraphy, and documentation technologies such as photogrammetry and drones.

October 13th, 15th, and 16th will be dedicated to school groups from the region.

Activities will take place at the Quyon Village Municipal Park, next to the Quyon Community Centre, located at 2 Ferry Street. Parking is available on site.

The activity is free and open to all. Participants should bring their own lunch; restrooms at the community centre will be available.
