Nearly $21 million granted to the future Outaouais Regional Museum

Minister of Culture and Communications Mathieu Lacombe announced an investment of nearly $21 million for the Musée régional de l’Outaouais (Outaouais Regional Museum). This sum marks a significant milestone in the project’s realization, following four years of planning and design.

The funds will be used, in particular, to finalize the architectural plans for the Foundry building, prepare for renovations, and design the future exhibition spaces. The museum will showcase the history, culture, natural heritage, and identity of the Outaouais region in a modern, inclusive, and evolving space.

The project also envisions the creation of a true regional cultural hub. The Galerie Montcalm hopes to establish itself there to enrich the artistic offerings and promote local artists. Families and young people will also play a key role through interactive spaces and regularly updated exhibitions.

Project leaders are now continuing their efforts to secure additional funding with the support of governments, municipalities, the private sector, and foundations. If the schedule is respected, the Outaouais Regional Museum could open its doors as early as 2030, or at the latest in 2031.
