Members called upon to vote on the merger of the Desjardins credit unions of Pontiac and Gracefield
Members of the Caisse Desjardins des Rivières de Pontiac and the Caisse populaire Desjardins de Gracefield will be asked to vote in September on a proposed merger of the two financial institutions.
Before the vote, the boards of directors of both credit unions will hold information sessions to present the project and answer members’ questions. The meeting for the Caisse des Rivières de Pontiac will take place on August 31st at 6:30 p.m. at its head office located at 243 Hérault Street in Mansfield-et-Pontefract. The meeting for the Caisse populaire de Gracefield will be held on September 1 at 6:30 p.m. at the Gracefield Municipal Hall, located at 5 Polyvalente Street.
Members will then be called upon to vote at virtual extraordinary general meetings scheduled for September 14 and 15, 2026.
According to the boards of directors, this new proposal is the result of careful consideration and takes into account the concerns expressed by members following an initial proposal presented last May. The goal is to combine the strengths of the two credit unions to ensure a lasting Desjardins presence in the region.
The chairs of the two boards of directors, Céline Romain of the Caisse des Rivières de Pontiac and Serge Caron of the Caisse populaire de Gracefield, state that the project aims to preserve the quality of services while ensuring their sustainability.
They also emphasize that this merger is not intended to reduce services offered in the region, but rather to guarantee their long-term maintenance.
If the members agree, the new entity, which would be called Caisse Desjardins des Rivières-du-Nord-de-l’Outaouais, would officially come into operation on January 1st, 2027.
