Hydro-Québec offers free heat pumps to low-income households

3 July 2026 à 3:44 pm

Hydro-Québec has announced a new program that will allow 20,000 low-income households to receive a free Energy Star certified wall-mounted heat pump. This initiative is funded by Hydro-Québec, as well as by the governments of Quebec and Canada, which will invest $243 million through the Éconologis program.

Eligible individuals must be homeowners or tenants, receive a Hydro-Québec bill in their name, and meet the program’s income criteria. Their primary residence must be heated solely with electric baseboard heaters and must not already have a heat pump.

In addition to heat pump installations this year, the program will offer, starting next year, door and window replacements and the installation of smart thermostats to improve home energy efficiency.

Those wishing to apply or obtain assistance can contact ACEF du Nord de Montréal, which supports consumers throughout Quebec. This measure will allow many families to reduce their electricity costs while enjoying greater comfort at home.

Are you eligible?

Consumers eligible for this financial assistance must meet certain criteria:

Be a homeowner or tenant (in which case, the landlord must authorize the work);
Receive a Hydro-Québec bill in their name;
Complete the Éconologis registration form.
