75 days of caution on the roads this summer

75 days of caution on the roads this summer

As summer reaches its peak in Quebec, authorities and road safety organizations like CAA-Quebec are reminding everyone of the importance of caution on the roads.

According to recent data, the period between Quebec’s National Holiday and Labour Day remains one of the most dangerous times of the year for fatal accidents. Last summer alone, 100 people lost their lives on Quebec roads during this critical period, a worrying toll that highlights the fact that the majority of these tragedies are linked to avoidable human behaviors.

Distracted driving and speeding remain the leading causes of fatal accidents, followed by impaired driving. Experts emphasize the importance of reducing distractions, respecting speed limits, and maintaining a safe following distance.

Prevention organizations also remind drivers that sharing the road with cyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists is essential, especially during the summer months when traffic is heavier.

Finally, drivers are encouraged to plan their trips, consider alternatives if they have been drinking alcohol, and adopt defensive driving practices.

A clear message for the next 75 days: caution, vigilance, and respect for other road users to save lives on Quebec roads.
