Canada Post officially signs its new collective agreements
It’s now official: Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers have signed their new collective agreements, bringing a long negotiation process to a close.
The agreements, which will be in effect until January 31st, 2029, were approved by union members on June 1st, with 89% support in the urban unit and 85.9% in the rural and suburban unit.
Negotiations dragged on for more than two years and were marked by seven weeks of strike action, intervention from the federal government, and a mandatory vote on the employer’s offers in the summer of 2025.
In a press release, Canada Post management stated that it intends to use this new stability to rebuild the company, restore confidence in the postal service, and better serve Canadians.
For its part, the union believes that, despite a difficult process, workers have achieved significant gains through these new agreements.
