Outaouais: fewer road deaths, but more accidents in 2025
The 2025 road safety report reveals a mixed picture in the Outaouais region: while the number of fatalities decreased, the total number of accidents and victims continued to rise.
According to data released by the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), the region recorded 13 road deaths in 2025, a decrease compared to the average of previous years. However, the number of minor injuries increased significantly, as did the total number of reported accidents.
In total, the Outaouais region recorded 1,148 people injured in accidents, representing an increase of nearly 15% compared to the 2020-2024 average. Minor injuries increased by more than 17%, while serious injuries decreased by approximately 12%.
Across Quebec, the trend is similar: the number of deaths is declining slightly, but the overall number of injuries is increasing, a situation that authorities attribute in particular to speeding, distracted driving, and impaired driving.
The SAAQ (Quebec Automobile Insurance Corporation) emphasizes that this situation reflects a worrying reality: even if accidents are less frequently fatal, they remain more common and continue to put a strain on road safety and emergency services.
