The MNA for Matane–Matapédia and Parti Québécois sports critic, Pascal Bérubé, will be tabling a motion aimed at increasing pressure on the Ottawa Senators so they allow the public broadcast of Montreal Canadiens games in the Outaouais region.

Subject to amendments by other parties, the motion proposes that the National Assembly recognize the cultural importance of hockey and the Montreal Canadiens for Quebecers. It also calls on the NHL and the Ottawa Senators to reconsider their decision and authorize the screening of playoff games during supervised public gatherings in Gatineau and elsewhere in the region.

This initiative comes as several elected officials and citizens have been calling for weeks for permission to broadcast Canadiens games in public spaces across the Outaouais.
