Shein and Temu are gaining ground among Quebecers
Low‑cost online shopping platforms Shein and Temu are becoming increasingly popular in Quebec.
According to a recent survey conducted for the Quebec Retail Council, Quebec consumers are buying more frequently and spending more on these two platforms than before.
Nearly 30% of respondents say they made a purchase on Temu in the past six months, a six‑point increase compared with last year. Many consumers also report having spent between 100 and 500 dollars on the site over the past year.
As for Shein, its customer base is also continuing to grow. More and more users say they shop there regularly, some even every week.
Low prices remain the main reason consumers turn to these platforms. Product variety, ease of use, and fast delivery are also among the most popular factors.
Meanwhile, the American platform Amazon has reportedly seen a slight decline in the number of Quebec buyers in recent months.
However, this growing popularity is causing concern among local merchants. The Quebec Retail Council says the presence of Shein and Temu puts significant pressure on local retailers.
The organization also raises concerns about the quality and safety of certain products sold on these platforms. An international investigation conducted in 2025 revealed that several tested items did not meet certain safety standards comparable to those in effect in Canada.
