Kidney Walk 2026: a movement of solidarity across Quebec
The Kidney Foundation is officially launching the 2026 Kidney Walk, a major fundraising campaign that will take place from May to October in several regions across Quebec. More than 20 walks are planned, bringing together thousands of participants, volunteers, and donors in the fight against kidney disease.
This year, the Quebec chapter of the Kidney Foundation aims to raise over $500,000. The funds will be used to support research, assistance programs, and services for people living with kidney disease and their loved ones.
According to the organization, each walk represents an opportunity to raise public awareness, pay tribute to those affected, and make a tangible contribution to improving patients’ quality of life.
The Foundation notes that kidney disease is a major health issue in the country:
- 1 in 10 Canadians lives with kidney disease
- About 65% of Quebecers on the transplant waiting list need a kidney
- The average wait time for a transplant is about 490 days
- More than 42% of new diagnoses are in people under the age of 65
- A person on dialysis can spend up to 1,000 hours a year connected to a machine
According to the World Health Organization, kidney disease is now considered a global priority and could become the fifth leading cause of death worldwide by 2040.
Registration is already open for the various walks organized across Quebec. Participants can register individually, as a family, or as a team and contribute through donations or fundraising.
Even for those who cannot walk, it is possible to support the cause with an online donation.
The Kidney Foundation emphasizes that every contribution, big or small, helps advance research and support those affected. The Kidney Walk is intended to be both a community event and a concrete gesture of solidarity on a provincial scale.
