The Network for a Family-Friendly Quebec is calling for families to be put back at the heart of Quebec’s priorities

The Network for a Family-Friendly Quebec is calling for families to be put back at the heart of Quebec’s priorities

To mark Quebec Family Week 2026, taking place from May 11th to 17th under the theme “Wearing many hats—that’s what family is all about!”, the Réseau pour un Québec Famille (RPQF) is unveiling two major recommendations for political parties ahead of the 2026 provincial elections.

The organization believes that family realities in Quebec have changed profoundly since the adoption of the Quebec Family Policy in 1997. According to the RPQF, issues related to employment, housing, health, education, and caregiving are now deeply interconnected and require a more coherent government approach.

The RPQF first proposes modernizing Quebec’s family policy to make it an explicit, cross-cutting, and inclusive framework adapted to the contemporary realities of families. The organization advocates for an intergenerational approach covering all life stages, from perinatal care through end-of-life care, while taking into account diverse regional and social realities.

The network also recommends reviving a program to support employers in achieving work-life balance, modeled after the Ministry of Family’s Financial Support Program for Work-Life Balance, which was discontinued in 2023.

According to the RPQF, this program, with an annual budget of less than two million dollars, supported between 60 and 80 organizations each year and improved the quality of life for thousands of workers and their families.

As part of Quebec Family Week 2026, several activities are being organized across Quebec.

Finally, the Réseau pour un Québec Famille is calling on political parties to include concrete commitments to families in their 2026 election platforms.
