Forest road cut off in the TNO of Lac-Nilgaut: traffic halted for an indefinite period
Users of Bois-Franc Road and Lac Jim Road will need to be patient. A major washout has made the area completely impassable.
The break is located at kilometer 54.8, near Rousseau Lake Creek, about one kilometer north of the Lac Cahill Road intersection. According to authorities, it is a major collapse approximately ten meters deep and twenty meters wide, preventing all traffic.
Although efforts are underway to restore a temporary passage, delays could extend over several weeks or even months.
Due to spring conditions and damage to alternate routes, the only currently passable option is limited to all-terrain vehicles (ATVs). This detour uses the Cahill-Schyan crossing, linking kilometer 54 of Bois-Franc Road to kilometer 42 of Schyan Road, before reconnecting with Bois-Franc Road at kilometer 86, near Forant Lake.
Authorities remind users that the thaw period is still ongoing in the TNO of Lac-Nilgaut. Several sections remain snow-covered, flooded, or very muddy, and conditions can change quickly from one day to the next.
Users are advised to avoid the area whenever possible and to report any issues related to road conditions to the MRC of Pontiac.
Updates will be provided as the situation evolves.
