Spring flood: monitoring continues across the region

Spring flood: monitoring continues across the region

24 April 2026 à 12:22 pm

Authorities continue to monitor spring flooding in the Ottawa River basin, as hydrological conditions remain under close observation.

According to the latest data from the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board, reservoirs located upstream are currently releasing increased flows downstream. In the affected areas, water levels may remain stable or experience a slight decrease in the short term.

Despite this possible lull, a second flood peak remains possible in the coming weeks, between Mattawa and Montreal, depending on snowmelt progression and upcoming precipitation. Rapid melting combined with significant rainfall could even result in water levels exceeding those recorded between April 19th and 22nd.

Residents are encouraged to follow developments by consulting the Ottawa River Regulation Planning Board’s website, where forecasts are typically updated everyday around 4:15 p.m.

The municipality indicates it is continuing to communicate with residents in vulnerable areas through its citizen alert system and emphasizes the importance of remaining vigilant.

Residents in at-risk areas are also advised to protect their property as needed, respect current road closures, and avoid flooded zones.

Assistance measures remain in place, including the distribution of sandbags and evacuation support.
